Awaaz Afghanistan Project Advisory Board Meeting – Strengthening Accountability and Humanitarian Response
On 6 August 2025, Awaaz Afghanistan (ICAC), a UNOPS-managed nationwide humanitarian helpline, convened its Project Advisory Board to review performance, challenges, and strategic priorities. The meeting highlighted increased call volumes in 2025, expanded data-sharing agreements, strengthened outreach through radio, TV, and in-person campaigns, and high partner satisfaction levels—reinforcing Awaaz’s role as a core accountability and communication mechanism in Afghanistan’s humanitarian response.
Data trends showed rising overall calls and referrals, a shift toward returnee callers, and strong case closure rates. A decline in female callers due to access barriers prompted the development of a gender analysis and action plan. Awaaz continues to deliver multilingual, confidential services that provide trusted information, structured feedback channels, and community-to-service-provider communication.
Key discussions focused on funding sustainability beyond 2026, large-scale system upgrades, reducing missed calls through increased operator capacity, and advancing dialogue on a unified accountability mechanism that complements agency-specific systems. Partners emphasized coordination, referral efficiency, and preparedness for returnee needs.
Awaaz reaffirmed its commitment to improved data visualization, AI-supported call systems, localized IEC materials, expanded digital outreach, and biannual partner satisfaction surveys. These efforts aim to strengthen accountability to affected people, improve service access, and ensure that community voices inform humanitarian action across Afghanistan.
