Empowering Women: How Awaaz Afghanistan Helped Protect Livelihood Training in Ghor
In the remote district of Lal wa Sarjangal, Ghor province, a dedicated woman runs a private tailoring course, helping local women gain skills to support themselves and their families. In 2024, she received tailoring machines from an organization to support hands-on training.
Soon after, disputes arose, and some local individuals seized the machines, claiming they would redistribute them. Despite her efforts to explain that the equipment was for vocational training, the instructor felt powerless and feared her students would lose a critical opportunity.
She contacted Awaaz Afghanistan, where her complaint was registered and promptly followed up. Awaaz coordinated with the partner organization and escalated the issue to senior UN agency management and the Inter-Agency Risk Management Unit. The case was carefully tracked with all parties until it was resolved.
As a result, the machines were returned to the training center on 30 January 2025, allowing the women to continue their learning. The instructor shared, “Awaaz Afghanistan gave me hope when I felt powerless. Their support ensured our training could continue.”

Justice Restored: How Awaaz Afghanistan Helped a Woman Reclaim Her Support
In a rural Afghan village, a woman received urgent cash assistance (14,700 AFN) meant to help her family meet basic needs. But soon after, individuals in local positions of influence forced her and other beneficiaries to hand over the money, turning relief into fear and distress.
Gathering courage, she confidentially contacted Awaaz Afghanistan. “I was afraid to speak, but I couldn’t stay silent when my family needed help,” she shared. She reported that she and 22 others had received assistance, only to have it taken the next day by community focal points claiming it would be redistributed.
Awaaz documented the complaint with full confidentiality and coordinated with the responsible organization. An investigation team was quickly deployed to verify the case and speak with those involved.
By 4 March 2025, the woman called Awaaz again — this time with relief. The team’s intervention led to the full return of the extorted funds. “I never thought someone would listen to me. Because of Awaaz, justice was done,” she said gratefully.

Clearing the Field of Danger: How Awaaz Afghanistan Helped Protect a Farming Land from Hidden Explosives
In Kandahar’s fertile Band-e-Taimoor area, farming is a way of life. But one farmer’s routine day turned frightening when his plough hit a buried, unexploded mine. The discovery left him worried for his family and neighbors. “I couldn’t sleep that night,” he said. “If this mine had exploded, it would have been a disaster.”
Unsure where to turn, he called Awaaz Afghanistan (410). Our operator listened with care, documented the case confidentially, and connected him with the relevant mine action authorities. Awaaz quickly referred the report through the Mine Action Programme of Afghanistan (MAPA) and partner agencies, ensuring explosive experts were dispatched without delay.
The response was swift. The mine action team assessed the area and safely cleared the unexploded ordnance. When the farmer called Awaaz again on 6 March 2025, it was with relief—the explosives had been removed on 24 February, restoring safety to his land. “Because of Awaaz, my family and our neighbors are safe again,” he shared.
