Emergencies
Awaaz Afghanistan plays a critical role in supporting communities during emergencies across the country. Through its nationwide toll-free helpline (410), vulnerable populations can access urgent guidance, information, and support during life-threatening or time-sensitive situations. This includes natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and landslides; displacement crises; the needs of returning Afghan refugees from neighboring countries; and other critical protection concerns.
When a caller reports an emergency, trained operators respond immediately, providing accurate information or connecting the caller with active partners delivering emergency services in their area. The helpline operates 12/7, ensuring rapid response for people in both urban centers and remote, hard-to-reach locations. Each case is documented, monitored, and followed up until the caller confirms their needs have been met.
Awaaz’s emergency services also include community awareness and preparedness guidance, helping people understand safety measures, early warning systems, and available resources during crises. For example, Awaaz has:
- Provides information and support to Afghan returnees from Iran and Pakistan.
- Assisted communities affected by earthquakes in Paktika, Herat, Kunar, and Nangarhar.
- Supported villages impacted by floods in Baghlan, Nangarhar, Helmand, and other provinces.
Awaaz ensures that communities in need are linked with emergency response teams, that urgent needs are addressed quickly, and delays in assistance are minimized, while empowering people to act safely during crises and respecting their dignity. Through this service, Awaaz strengthens community resilience, preparedness, and the overall effectiveness of humanitarian emergency response in Afghanistan.
